The Bureau of Meteorology is seeking a dedicated professional to fill the role of the Space Support Officer working directly to the National Manager, Space (EL2) to strengthen the Bureau's engagement with the Australian space sector, as well as work internally within the Bureau to better coordinate activities relating to space.
The role requires a self-motivated professional, with a positive and creative outlook and proven engagement and organisational skills. The role will undertake work that is, at times, complex in nature and perform tasks to support and make decisions that involve planning and liaison with internal Bureau groups and external agencies (i.e. Australian Space Agency, CSIRO, Geoscience Australia, Austrade and Defence). Establishing mechanisms to support information-sharing and progress the development of collaborative projects between key partners to achieve the Bureau's mission and vision will be key to the role.
Knowledge of the space industry to support the development of the Bureau's Spaceflight Meteorological Service are critical to the role including activities related to the Bureau's space weather capability, and the Bureau's involvement in Space Situational Awareness activities alongside external stakeholders both internationally and nationally. Engaging with key stakeholders and government agencies to solicit strategic support for this capability's success will be a priority.
Effective communication skills are critical to convey messages clearly, concisely and accurately, as well as taking ownership of tasks, with an attention to detail, and actively contributing to a positive work environment. The successful applicant will have a key role in contributing to how the Bureau understands and responds to partner and customer feedback to build customer satisfaction and trust in the Bureau.
